    RIVER SELECTION
A “Class “ number system is used to rate the rivers throughout the world. Ratings are based on the most challenging rapid on a particular section. The most popular scale is Class 1 through Class 6. Ratings involving a “half”, i.e. 3 ½ indicate the section fall between two Classes. The lower the Class rating number, the easier the river is to run. Consideration should be given to the Class of river you choose to run. To review a description of each of the Classes, go to Safety Factors.

    SEATING POSITION
If you are looking to maximize the thrills, try to be seated towards the front of the raft. If you are really apprehensive, ask to sit near to your Guide at the rear of the raft. Everyone sits around the perimeter of the raft so that when you are on flat water you will be comfortable. To enhance your probability of remaining in position we suggest that as you approach each rapid, you reposition yourself so that your feet are about 14 to 16 inches apart and planted firmly on the floor of the raft. Put 1/3 of your weight on each foot and the other 1/3 on your derriere.

    SAFETY ORIENTATION
The safety guidelines are presented one time in camp, before you even see the rafts, a second time at the “Put-In”, after you are fitted with your life jacket, just before the launch. Your guide will also ask to see if anyone has any questions regarding the safety procedures. Don’t be shy. If there is anything you are unsure of, please ask to have the point(s) clarified. Basically the river flow takes the raft downstream with little effort on your part. Your Guide will call out simple instructions as you approach each rapid. He or she needs a little “paddle power” to maneuver the raft to take advantage of specific water flows to ensure a safe line through the upcoming rapid. Try to pay special attention to these instructions; they will make the difference between a clean run or a sloppy, and potentially hazardous one.

    STIMULANTS
Alcohol is not permitted on the rafts, it is permitted on the buses, and in camp AFTER the days rafting. Non-prescription drugs are not permitted at any time. Not on the tour buses, nor on the rafts. Our campground owners reserve the right to remove any person found to have, or to be using illegal drugs on their property. Such removal would terminate their participation on a rafting trip, without recourse from the campground or River Mountain Action.

    BEHAVIOR
We want everyone to enjoy their entire trip so, since 1979, we have had a behavior code on all our trips."An acceptable standard of behavior must be maintained." See What to Bring for recommendations on equipment you will need, or might wish to bring with you.
